Best Laptop under 600 Dollars 2015

Currently the 600-dollar laptops are very excellent in performance, they widely adopt Intel Core i5-5200U even Intel core i7-5500U, 8GB ram and 1TB HDD, can be fully competent in our daily work and entertainment, and it is no exaggeration to say that, some users that only use lightweight applications probably will not ever make full use of its performance, which causes its excess in performance.

And they are very particular in design and other features, for example, the HP ENVY x360 uses the Full HD touch screen, but in the past you can hardly find the laptops with the Full HD screen at this price, let alone the ones with the touch screen.

The Lenovo G50 features an Intel Core i7-5500U processor and a new Intel HD5500 integrated graphics chip. It might not be quite powerful enough for heavy duty gamers, but the CPU can cope with almost anything else. Multimedia editing and game playing at lower settings are well within its capabilities. As a mid-range 15.6-Inch Laptop, it punches well above its weight.

This is due in part to the Intel  i7-5500U processor. A dual core, 5th generation processor released in 2015, it has a base clock speed of 2.4GHz, and can be switched over to turbo, and clock 3GHz. Operating most demanding software on the Lenovo G50 then, is a breeze.

In fact, as most people will rarely, if ever, take their CPU’s to the limits, it could arguably be overkill for a mid-range laptop like this. That said, it is a good choice, because with care, the laptop will last for years, and be able to cope with more powerful programs in the future. It makes it more of an investment.

The Lenovo G50 comes with 8GB of Ram installed, and as there is another memory slot on the mainboard, a further 8GB could be added. At the moment, it is hard to imagine that most people would need more than 8GB, but in a few years time, this might not be the case. Room for expansion is always a good thing.

On to the hard drive then. This can store 1TB, which means that it is easily going to cope with the games, photos and video clips you have accumulated, and will accumulate, in the future. One downside though, is the RPM. At 5400 revolutions per minute, boot up and program loading times are not as fast as some people have come to expect. Of course, this is easily remedied by using an SSD replacement over the hard drive, and then have a larger external storage.

Display and graphics

If anything lets this well priced laptop down, it is the display. I suppose given the quality of the processor, something had to be sacrificed! So, instead of Full HD or a touchscreen, the 15.6?display has a 1366×768 resolution. Certainly not the end of the world, but Full HD would be nice.

On the positive side, the Lenovo G50 comes with a Intel HD 5500 graphics chip installed, which has better benchmark tests that the HD 4400. It is a touch slower than the HD4600 though. Keep in mind, that whilst older games such as Minecraft and League of Legends can be played at high settings and FPS, newer games such as Battlefield 4 will get decent frame rates of 30 FPS, but only on lower settings.

Connections

3 USB Ports – You have three USB ports to utilize on the Lenovo G50. One of the three is 3.0 while the other two are 2.0; USB 3.0 being the fastest and primary USB and the other two the slower ports.

Many people like to use some other display than the laptop’s own little screen. On this model that is possible, since there are VGA and HDMI outs available.

Internet Access – The Lenovo G50 features both wired and wireless options. The gigabit ethernet RJ-45 is what you use for the wired and the WiFi dual-band adapter is ideal for wireless access. If you own and use your mobile device often you’ll enjoy the Bluetooth 4.0 support the WiFi card provides.

VGA & HDMI – The VGA and HDMI outlets allow you to set up other displays when using your laptop. The webcam (0.3MP) is VGA and works fine for video chat and the like and a microphone is also included.

Smaller Features – Lastly, one of the best features includes the DVD burner and the media card reader that is compatible with MMC and SD cards.

Other noteworthy things

Portable – The Lenovo weighs a whopping 4.62 pounds so it shouldn’t be ruled out for its portability. The battery is a 4-cell 2200 mAh so you can expect to have about 4 hours on a single charge.

10-Key Pad – Having easy access to the number keys is an important feature for those who use it often. The Lenovo has one, however it should be noted that the keyboard is not a back-lit keyboard.

Summary

The cost of a Lenovo G50 is not exactly in the lesser range and the price has actually increased due to the updated graphics and CPU. It includes 8GB of ram as well so that factor alone will come into play when trying to decide if the Lenovo is right for you
